My Panic Attacks
I have bad panic attacks and even worse panic attacks. But it is true that you will never forget your first panic attack. In my case, it was a couple of months after graduation and I was going out with my friends to get together. We were at the car on the way to our friend’s place when all of a sudden, I found it difficult to breathe. I am suffering from asthma since I was a kid but the feeling is different. My chest was very painful and I started to feel nauseous and dizzy. I really don’t want to make a scene and destroy the night so I tried to calm myself. However, the feeling just kept getting worse and worse, and I was crying because of the pain. I told my friends that I am having a heart attack and they rushed me to the hospital. My friends worriedly stayed with me at the hospital. But after some tests, the doctor said that I am ‘fine’, and may have just suffered from a panic attack. My friends and I couldn’t understand what happened.
And then, more panic attacks happened. Sometimes, it happens just when you need to be in your ‘normal’ mode, like a job interview for instance. And I could not even drive a car because I may have panic attacks anytime. It was very frustrating.

My doctor prescribed me some drugs when he diagnosed me with panic and anxiety disorder. However, I still had panic attacks after taking the drugs. What’s worse was I was always unable to sleep and felt very tired everyday. I stopped taking them and checked for alternatives.
I went to the internet and found some treatments and books. I tried special diets, meditation, stress management, etc. It seems I have tried everything and nothing seems to work.

If you have a friend or family member that suffers from panic attacks, the first thing that you have to do to help them is to learn what panic attacks are all about and how to help them get through panic attacks. If you understand what panic attacks are, you will understand what your friend or family is going through.
In the event of a friend or a family member’s panic attack, remain calm. The last thing that you want to do is panic yourself as this will just aggravate situation and increase the anxiety the sufferer is experiencing. Then, gently take their hands and speak to them. When speaking to them make sure that you do not raise your voice. Do this in a calm manner. Ask what they are feeling and ask if they need anything. Assure them that this will pass and help them focus on the positive side of things.
Tell them that you understand what they are going through and you are there to assist them as they go through the process. Some panic attack patients say that one of the main problems that they face is that their friends and family do not seem to understand what they are going through. Do not make fun of them or think that they are just over reacting. The condition is serious and your understanding will come a long way.
Due to the nature of panic attacks, sufferers may still be uncooperative. This can be frustrating for you but do not let the feeling get on your way. Concentrate on helping your family or friend instead of their negative reactions towards you. They are reacting this way because they are not feeling well.
Dealing with with a friend or family member who gets panic attacks can be tough. But, with your love, sincerity and understanding, you can definitely ease the anxiety and help them go through panic attacks easier.

Coping With Anxiety By Having a Sound Mind and Body
In this day and age, we are trained to think that if we are not feeling well, we should down some pills and medication to make us feel better. My personal experience when taking medication to stop panic attacks was not good at all. Research shows that drugs to relieve anxiety or panic attacks have side effects such as insomnia, restlessness, headaches, reduced sexual desire or inability to have orgasm, memory loss and fatigue. I wanted to have a drug-free life and do not want to depend on these drugs to cope with panic.
Here are some tips that you can do to cope with anxiety. They cannot only help you reduce the ill effects of panic attacks but also make you a healthier person.
1. Eat Right
Many of us have a busy lifestyle that we do not take a good look of what we are eating anymore. We usually take highly processed food contaminated with pesticides and other harmful ingredients. If you are panic attacks sufferer, it pays to take a close look at what you are eating. You should make sure you include enough fruits and vegetables in your diet. Having a proper diet will make sure all the nutrients your body needs are supplied so your systems can function properly.
2. Exercise and Meditate
Exercising regularly will not only tone your body but also supply your brain with much needed fresh oxygen. Our bodies need oxygen in order to do its intended functions well. It is recommended that you exercise everyday at least thirty minutes. If this is not possible due to time constraints or because of your low fitness level, start exercising three times a week. You can start by walking more, climbing the stairs instead of using the elevator or simply walking around the local mall.
Meditation will also help you calm your mind, reduce stress and anxiety. Preferably do this every night before you go to sleep. Over time, it will not only reduce anxiety but also increase your ability to concentrate and focus.
3. Be Positive and Happy
They say you cannot choose what can happen everyday but you can choose how to react about it. Happiness is a choice that you should always choose. Most of irrational fears of people with panic disorders are caused by negative thoughts that enter their minds. If you train yourself to focus more on the positive side, you will find yourself not thinking about the next panic attack.
Having a sound mind and body will help you reduce the anxiety that you feel everyday. Do these exercises and you will be happier, stronger and healthier.

Panic Attacks Symptoms
You may be suffering from panic attacks if you are experiencing these symptoms:
* Shortness of breath
